After a European childhood and a busy adulthood in Australia’s capital, Canberra, well-travelled Lindsay Byron now calls Springlake home.

It was Lindsay’s daughter Alissa, an Adelaide Hills resident herself, who inspired the 1100 kilometre move from Canberra to Springlake in June 2016.

“I wanted to move to the Adelaide Hills to be closer to my daughter’s family,” Lindsay said. “Alissa was about to give birth to her first child – and my first grandchild – and when she sent me the Springlake brochure I was sold.”

Lindsay said Springlake gave her the chance to build her dream.

“The great thing about building is that you can create the home you want,” she said.

“I chose a four-bedroom home by Metricon and while it is predominately off the plan I was able to give it my own personality and change a few things – like adding double-glazed windows to keep out the cold.

“My home faces northeast so it gets plenty of sunlight that fills the house with warmth – that’s my favourite part.”

Lindsay, a retired teacher, still remembers the day she and her mother arrived in Australia in December 1974.

“Before moving to Canberra we lived in Denmark for 13 years and in Spain for five,” she said.

“My two brothers had already moved to Australia and I always thought I would like it – I liked the fragrance from the summer blossom and wattles.”

Lindsay likes showing off Springlake and the Adelaide Hills to her east coast visitors, who are all impressed with the peace and convenience.

“I like taking them to Mount Barker – which has all the shopping and services you need – and dropping into the small towns nearby.

“My favourites are Three Brother’s Arms in Macclesfield and Avalon in Woodside, while Auchendarroch House is great for a coffee.”

Although Lindsay has lived in Australia for 40 years, it is Springlake that has given her some true Australian wildlife experiences for the first time.

“I’d never seen a koala in the wild until I moved to Springlake,” she said.

“I love being able to walk down my street and then in a few minutes be on a quiet rural lane with no-one about expect vineyards, orchards, natural bush, alpacas and cattle.

“Adelaide Hills living is wonderful.”
